Genesis Bible Study Bible Doctrine 01 suppliment

God is!

God and His Word (the Bible) are the foundational teaching for all Christian doctrine. Below are some key Scripture that will give us a starting point in out Biblical doctrine study. As we wrestle with the whole counsel of God it is critical that we remember God's character, His characteristics, and His covenant define His relationship with His creation, therefore none of our Bible interpretations should violate His character or His characteristics, nor any of His Holy Word (covenant).

We must also remember that He is the creator of all things and that He has made an everlasting covenant with man.

1. Creation/Creator:

Gen 1:1 - In the beginning God created....

Rom 1:19-21 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed [it] unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified [him] not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

2. Purpose of Scripture:

ALL Scripture is God breathed and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work (2 Tim. 3.16-17).

Jesus states in Luke 24:27, "And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself."

John states in John 20:31, "But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name."

3. Covenant making/Keeping God.

Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he [is] God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; (Deut 7:9)

And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good? (Deut 10:12-13)

Jesus says..."I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6)

Character, Characteristics & Covenant of God - Do a brief online study on these, because these are foundational to all Biblical doctrine. The fact that God is unchanging, therefore all of His interactions with His creation are consistent with His character, characteristics and covenant revelation. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow!

This introduction is lesson 1 of Bible doctrines and its purpose is to lay the foundation for our Bible Study program. After each study module we will have a Bible Doctrine, a Theology, and a Biblical Counseling lesson as an outside study assignment.
