The book of John is not considered a Synoptic Gospel, however one lesson on John is included for the student to get a complete picture of Christ.
.Read John 1:1-3, meditate on these verses and write a paragraph about your understanding of them.
.Read John 3:1-13, meditate on these verses and write a paragraph about your understanding of them, especially the phrase “being born again”.
.Read John 3:14-18, mediate on the verses and write a paragraph about your understanding of the background (Old Testament illustration), the new testament offer, and terms of acceptance of the offer.
.Read John chapter 9 about the “blind man”. Why did Jesus say that he had been born blind? Meditate on this chapter and write a paragraph about the contrast of physical blindness to spiritual blindness.
.The book of John has seven “I AM” statements. Many Bible scholars believe that Jesus’ “I AM” statements relate to the story in Exodus 3 where God tells Moses that His name is “I AM”. Also not only does Jesus relate to Himself as the “I AM” in John, in the book of Revelation Jesus that He is the “One that was, is, and is to come.” Meditate upon the relationship of these conecpts and write a paragraph about your understanding of them.
.Read John 10:1-18, meditate upon these verses and write a paragraph upon them. In this paragraph make sure you touch upon verses 10:4,10.
.Read John 15:1-8, meditate upon these verses and write a paragraph about your understanding, especially about the relationship of abiding and fruit bearing. What relationship does John 15:9-11 have with John 15:1-8?
.Read John chapters 14- 16 about the Comforter. Meditate upon these chapters and write a paragraph about your understanding of the Comforter. Relate the Comforter to the concept of being “born again.” Relate the Comforter to the visual presence of God with Israel in the Old Testament.
.Chose one of the above topics (Scriptures) and write a lecture or sermon outline, with at least 3 major points (divisions) and each major point with 2-3 sub-points, identify the theme (key idea) and also state an application (what desire action) you would like from the hearers. Use basic homiletics and alliteration concepts in construction your outline.
.Read John 20:31. Write a paragraph about your understanding of this verse.
