Lesson  4    Paul's Epistles    Ephesians

1. Outline Ephesians.

2. Read Eph 1:1-15 in a King James version and note every occurrence of the phrase “in Christ” or equivalent such as “in Him, in whom, etc. How many did you find? What do you think this phrase means?

3. Look at a number of commentaries on Ephesians and find one that divides it into two sections (chp 1-3 & chp 4-6). Those that divide Ephesians this way usually call first division “position” and last section “practice” of being in Christ 9 (or equivalent concepts).

4. Are the two above divisions stand alone or does it take both to complete God's thought on a person being “in Christ”? Explain.

5. Read Eph 2:8-10. How could you divide these three verses to have a portion with the focus on 'our position” and a portion on “our practice”? Explain.

6. Explain how one might view Eph 2:8-9 as a summary of chapters 1-3 and Eph 2:10 as a summary of chapters 4-6.
